My name is はな (Hana) I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and now live in Kyoto. I’m the daughter of a sushi chef, the wife of a English teacher, and a mother to two curious (and always hungry) children. Growing up, my days were filled with the comforting smells of simmering tonkotsu broth and freshly made noodles from my parents’ sushi shop. Though I didn’t help much in the kitchen back then—I was more focused on enjoying the food!—those flavors stayed with me and shaped my love for cooking later in life.
After working as a graphic designer for over a decade, I realized my true passion lay in sharing the beauty of Japanese cuisine. Now, I run a small blog called JapanDishes , where I share simple yet delicious Japanese recipes along with tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. My goal is to make traditional dishes accessible to home cooks everywhere while adding a modern touch here and there.
